Useful Chinese Vocab on Pandemic Contact-Tracing

While we’re getting more and more cautiously optimistic in Shanghai, the pandemic measures remain quite strict in other cities in China.

The contact tracing system is in place, and words such as ‘suspected case’ and ‘confirmed case’ became our everyday vocabulary.

01. SUSPECTED CASE

WHAT IT MEANS…

意思是怀疑这个人感染了病毒, 但是还不确定是不是真的。
Yìsi shì huáiyí zhè ge rén gǎnrǎn le bìngdú, dànshì bù quèdìng shì bushì zhēnde.
It means it is suspected that this person has been infected, but it’s not confirmed whether it’s true or not.

02. CONFIRMED CASE

确诊病例
quèzhěn bìnglì
confirmed case

WHAT IT MEANS…

意思是确定这个人感染了病毒。
Yìsi shì quèdìng zhè ge rén gǎnrǎn le bìngdú.
It means it is confirmed that this person has been infected.

mìjiē

WHAT IT MEANS…

意思是这个人跟“确诊病例”有比较近距离的接触。
Yìsi shì zhè ge rén gēn “quèzhěn bìnglì” yǒu bǐjiào jìn jùlí de jiēchù.
It means that this person has had close contact with an infected person/people.

04. SECONDARY CONTACT

secondary contact

WHAT IT MEANS…

意思是这个人跟“密接”有比较近距离的接触。
Yìsi shì zhè ge rén gēn “mìjiē” yǒu bǐjiào jìn jùlí de jiēchù.
It means that this person has had contact with a suspected or confirmed case.
